Anti Cellulite Exercises

Anti-cellulite exercise has a number of advantages over other cellulite treatments. It is probably the cheapest of all the treatments that are available – with the right equipment, you can conduct it at home for free or at the gym for a small monthly fee. You can also exercise at a time that suits you. Best of all, effective anti-cellulite exercises can be conducted in as little as 40 minutes, 3 days per week.

A Proven 8 Week Program for Cellulite Removal

If you are interested in exercises to get rid of cellulite then a must read is “No More Cellulite” by Wayne Westcott and Linda La Rosa. What makes the advice in the Westcott and La Rosa’s book different is that it is based on proven scientific research conducted over a number of years.

For example, 115 women that underwent the No More Cellulite program all reported a reduction in cellulite at the end of 8 weeks. Another study of 16 women aged 26 to 66 showed that not only did they reduce their cellulite but the women on average lost 3 pounds of fat and 1 ½ inches from their hips.

Westcott’s program cab see results in just 8 weeks and requires just 40 minutes of cardiovascular, strength building and stretching exercises, performed together for 3 times a week.

Build Muscle and Lose Fat

“Too little muscle and too much fat is largely responsible for the so-called cellulite condition”, explains Westcott, fitness research director at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Mass.

Fat is very soft tissue and does not naturally sit in a smooth or shapely fashion on the body. Instead, it bulges outwards. Muscle on the other hand, is firm and smooth and can provide shape to the legs and hips by keeping the skin taut. If too much fat is unsupported by enough muscle from underneath, the fat layer clumps together and cellulite results.

This is one of the reasons why women are more susceptible to cellulite as they age. The average adult woman loses 5 pounds of muscle and adds around 15 pounds every decade.

It is also the reason why dieting alone doesn’t get rid of the condition. In fact, dieting can actually make cellulite worse because it can lead to a loss of muscle. Finally, it explains why skinny females can actually have worse cellulite than larger women – they don’t have enough lean muscle mass.

The Program

The aim of the No More Cellulite program is to build muscle in the cellulite prone areas of the hips and thighs, while also reducing fat levels through endurance exercise.

The weight lifting component for the hips and thighs consists of exercises such as legs curls, leg extensions and leg press. The rest of the body is worked out by doing exercises that fatigue the chest, back and arms. The entire strength training element is done briefly but intensely, and can be finished in 20 minutes.

After each exercise performed, the muscles are stretched using specific stretching exercises.

Following the weight lifting and stretching exercises, aerobic activities are conducted. These could include such exercises as cycling, treadmill or stair-stepper.

The most important part of the No More Cellulite program is the strength training. Many women are concerned that if they focus too much on weights they will bulk up like a body builder. For the majority of females, this is near impossible. Women do not have enough naturally occurring testosterone to respond to strength training in this way. Instead, an increase in lean muscle mass causes the limbs, thighs, buttocks and waist to become leaner, smoother and shapelier.

Conclusion

The main disadvantage of anti cellulite exercise is that it requires commitment and patience. If you are not the type of woman who enjoys exercise or has the time to commit to such a program, then you probably should look at another cellulite treatment. You may also want to combine an exercise program with another cellulite removal method to increase the effectiveness of your efforts.
